When the yellow plums ripen, rain falls on every home,
青草池塘处处蛙。— Around the grassy pond, frogs call everywhere.
My invited guest has not arrived, and midnight has passed,
Idly I tap a game piece, shaking down the lampwick's charred blossom.
Tang dynasty · Wang Wei
In Jing Stream, white stones emerge，
The weather grows cold, red leaves grow sparse.
On the mountain path there is no rain at all,
空翠湿人衣。— The green haze in the air dampens one's clothes.
Song dynasty · Ye Shaoweng
萧萧梧叶送寒声，— Rustling parasol-tree leaves carry the sound of cold,
The autumn wind upon the river stirs a traveler's feelings.
I know that children are teasing out crickets,
Deep in the night, a single lamp shines by the fence.

秋坐金张馆，繁阴昼不开。— In autumn I sit in the halls of Jin and Zhang; dense shade does not lift even by day.
Mist in the air blurs the rain's hues, a bleak chill comes into view.
Dark and dim, the anguish of sinking in disaster; heavy and deep, sorrow and grief press on.
What can console me in clear autumn，white wine brimming in my cup.

Clouds and mist drift chill and forlorn through dawn; the Han palaces loom stirringly against the high autumn sky.

十里西畴熟稻香，槿花篱落竹丝长，垂垂山果挂青黄。— For ten li, ripe rice scents the western fields; hibiscus blooms along the fences, slender bamboo stretches long, and mountain fruits hang heavy, green and yellow.
Thick mist heralds autumn, the morning air moist; thin clouds veil the sun, the noon shade cool. No flying canopy is needed to shelter my military dress.
