Sharing Light at the Cold Food Festival

[Intro]

[Verse 1]

Flowers in the springtime city drift everywhere in the wind

Long willow shadows sweep across the quiet bridge

At dusk someone passes along a brightly burning candle

Yet I see many windows still steeped in loneliness

[Pre-Chorus]

If warmth enters only grand gates and lofty walls

Then someone still stands outside the light

[Chorus]

May every window receive a share of firelight

May someone take care to light even an ordinary evening meal

No need for an illustrious surname or beautiful clothes

Everyone coming home deserves a warm mouthful

May every window receive a share of firelight

Let the spring breeze truly enter the little alley around the corner

[Instrumental Interlude]

[Verse 2]

Smoke slowly spreads from deep within the courtyards

Yet the festival still awaits a more equal arrival

I steadily shelter this little light in my hands

I want to offer it first to that weary face beside me

[Pre-Chorus]

If warmth enters only grand gates and lofty walls

Then someone still stands outside the light

[Chorus]

May every window receive a share of firelight

May someone take care to light even an ordinary evening meal

No need for an illustrious surname or beautiful clothes

Everyone coming home deserves a warm mouthful

May every window receive a share of firelight

Let the spring breeze truly enter the little alley around the corner

[Bridge]

A lovely season should have more than one answer

A good life should not exist only on some distant lofty terrace

If a lamp would move a little closer beside us

Then the world has one more warm place to sit

[Final Chorus]

May every window receive a share of firelight

May someone take care to light even an ordinary evening meal

No need for an illustrious surname or beautiful clothes

Everyone coming home deserves a warm mouthful

May every window receive a share of firelight

Let the spring breeze truly enter the little alley around the corner

[Outro]

I walk slowly in the direction the blossoms fall

Bring this little beam of light to your door
