Autumn Light in the Cup

[Intro]

[Verse 1]

The evening breeze over the lake disperses the lotus fragrance

The geese write the sky into faraway places

The newly brewed wine still holds a faint sweetness

You have already brought out a simple meal for us

[Pre-Chorus]

Every year someone journeys far away

And always someone keeps a seat waiting

[Chorus]

While autumn’s light is still in this cup

While your smile can still light my heart red

Slowly tell the wind all the words left unsaid

Hold our rare meeting close in an embrace

While autumn’s light is still in this cup

May tonight’s song be more unhurried than the years

[Instrumental Interlude]

[Verse 2]

After the flowers fall, the lake still shines

I no longer panic at every change of season

Those roads and rains we traveled through together

Have made us a shore in each other's hearts

[Pre-Chorus]

Every year someone journeys far away

And always someone keeps a seat waiting

[Chorus]

While autumn’s light is still in this cup

While your smile can still light my heart red

Slowly tell the wind all the words left unsaid

Hold our rare meeting close in an embrace

While autumn’s light is still in this cup

May tonight’s song be more unhurried than the years

[Bridge]

A joyful gathering need not prove forever

Nor need farewell undo yesterday

If a song can keep you company through one night

Then there is a little warmth worth treasuring

[Final Chorus]

While autumn’s light is still in this cup

While your smile can still light my heart red

Slowly tell the wind all the words left unsaid

Hold our rare meeting close in an embrace

While autumn’s light is still in this cup

May tonight’s song be more unhurried than the years

[Outro]

When night grows deep, set the empty cup down firmly

Tomorrow a kindly wind will still urge us out the door
